I Don’t Feel Like Myself — And My Doctor Won’t Listen
If you’ve ever sat in your doctor’s office, tried to explain that something just feels off, and been met with a blank stare or a rushed prescription… you are so not alone.
You might not even have a specific symptom. It’s just that you feel tired, your sleep sucks, your belly feels bloated no matter how clean you eat, and honestly… sex isn’t what it used to be.
You're not depressed. You're not lazy. You’re just not you right now — and no one seems to be listening.
Why Doesn’t Your Doctor Hear You?
Let me be blunt: most doctors do care. But the system they work in? It's broken. In a traditional insurance-based model, appointments are 10–15 minutes long. Take away the time to check vitals, chart, and click 37 boxes… and your doctor is left with 7 minutes to fix what’s been going wrong for years.
You know what doesn't fit in a 7-minute slot?
Fatigue, hormone fluctuations, intimacy struggles, sleep issues, and belly fat — all wrapped up in the messy beauty of life.
Add in that most of these symptoms don’t show up in one perfect lab result. There’s no single blood test that tells us why you’re not sleeping or why your energy is tanked.
Your symptoms are real, but they’re often vague. And vague doesn’t get you answers in a broken system.
Why You Have to Be “That Patient”
You need to be your own advocate.
Yes, I’m saying it: Be “that patient.” The one who asks the questions, pushes back, says “I don’t feel right” even if the labs are “normal.”
You’re not crazy.
You’re not being difficult.
You’re being awake to your own body.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Getting to the root cause takes curiosity, trial and error, and time. Sometimes it takes 90 minutes to understand what a 9-minute visit missed for 9 years.
Your symptoms are like puzzle pieces. You need someone willing to sit with you, hear the full story, and put it all together.
And if your doctor isn’t listening? Find one who will.
Practical Steps You Can Take Today
Start a Symptom Journal. Write down what you're feeling daily — energy, sleep, cravings, intimacy, mood. You’ll start seeing patterns. Data = power.
Ask Better Questions at Appointments. Say things like:
“Can we look deeper into this instead of just treating the symptom?”
“What else could be causing this fatigue if it’s not iron or thyroid?”
“Can we consider hormones, gut health, or sleep quality here?”
Explore Direct Primary Care. This model allow doctors to actually listen. We spend time with patients because we don’t answer to insurance companies — we answer to you.
And Let’s Not Forget...
These issues don’t just affect women. If you're reading this and you're a guy who feels off too — low energy, low libido, poor sleep — you’re not imagining it. The system hasn’t served you well and don’t just tough it out. You deserve answers too.
You Are Not Alone.
You’re smart. You’re capable. And your body is whispering — sometimes screaming — that something isn’t right.
Don’t settle.
The answers are out there. And you’re not crazy for wanting them.
